GRADUATE ADMISSION
 
All students who wish to enroll in graduate-level courses must be admitted to the Graduate School.

Non-degree Admission
Students may take a maximum of 12 credit hours without working toward a particular degree.  Students taking courses offered through The University of Alabama's College of Education can enroll as non-degree seeking students for only one semester. The University cannot guarantee that courses taken in this manner will apply toward a degree program.

APPLICATION FOR ADMISSION TO THE GRADUATE SCHOOL NON-DEGREE SEEKING:

  1. Complete non-degree seeking application form online

  1. Pay one time $30 application fee – can use a credit/debit card to pay online, will not have to pay if previously registered for graduate classes at UA
     
  1. Set up myBama account after 2 or 3 days.  Go to the following web site:  www.mybama.ua.edu

Click on “Need an account?” 

  1. Register for classes after you have been accepted as a non-degree seeking student (it may take a week or two for your non-degree seeking application to be processed)

APPLICATION FOR ADMISSION TO THE GRADUATE SCHOOL:

1.  Complete an application form online

a.   Will not have to pay $30 application fee if previously registered for graduate classes at UA or paid the fee as a non-degree seeking student

b.   Create a myBama account (if not already created) a few days after submitting application by going to www.mybama.ua.edu and clicking on “Need an account?”

c.   Track application status through myBama under Academics tab. 
 

  1. Complete statement of purpose online

May want to type it in a word document first then copy and paste into the online form 

  1. Submit 3 letters of recommendation to be mailed directly to the department affiliated with the degree to be pursued

a.   If possible get one letter from an undergraduate professor or a professor in your proposed field of graduate study

b.   Prepare a self-addressed stamped envelope for the recommenders 
 

  1. Submit official copies of all college transcripts directly to the following address:

  1. Send official test scores (GRE or MAT) directly to the Graduate School (see address above), must score at the 50th percentile on the MAT, 1000 on the GRE
     

a.   Previous test scores can be used if the test was taken no more than five years ago

b.   We offer the MAT at the Gadsden Center.  Check out our website for dates and times.

 

*Graduate degrees in Educational Leadership require a departmental application, a resume, and a writing sample (this includes Higher Education Administration).  Here is the link to the application:  http://education.ua.edu/leader/forms/DepartmentApplication.pdf.  Send all of these materials to the address listed at the top of the departmental application. 

 

**Out-of-state students can apply for a tuition grant by completing the application found at the following website:  http://www.gadsden.ua.edu/DGOST00708.pdf
